The Alameda County Deputy Sheriffs’ Activities League (DSAL) and the San Francisco 49ers Foundation are offering a free, co-ed, youth flag football program that provides a safe, fun introduction to football and its fundamentals, along with an outlet for physical fitness, and the development of social and life skills. The free, non-contact program is open to youth ages 7-14 of all genders and will include additional activities to teach life lessons that build stronger individuals and communities. The 8-week program will take place on Saturdays from 9:00 a.m. - 11:30 a.m. from April 2 through May 21, 2022. The program will take place at Bohannan middle school at 800 Bockman Rd., San Lorenzo, CA.
DSAL has had an incredible response from youth who are interested in participating in the Flag Football program with more than 100 registrations. DSAL’s athletic department estimates that they will have enough youth to field 13 teams, but in order to do that, they will need up to 13 coaches.
DSAL is seeking volunteer coaches to participate in this program as part of the Alameda County Community Capitals Policing model where sworn personnel build authentic relationships with community members through place-based investments and initiatives. For those who are interested in serving as volunteer coaches, please contact Reilly Filter, DSAL’s Athletics and Recreation Operations Assistant at rfilter@acdsal.org,
DSAL serves thousands of youth and families every year through a range of fitness and recreation activities, including soccer, boxing, wrestling, fitness, and dance. The fitness and recreation activities are led by passionate, talented coaches and instructors who are dedicated to DSAL’s mission to improve lives by creating pathways for people to succeed with positive activities for people of all ages while also building trusting relationships with Alameda County Sheriffs Office personnel. The outcomes of this work are a stronger, more cohesive and safer community.
